Jessee Family Reunion-Oct. 1, 2016
The 12 Biennial National Jessee Family Reunion was held Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, beginning at 10 am. See details at www.jessee.org. I encouraged a good attendance, but understand it was low.
It has been my plan to be there this year, with my wife Nelda, and to be at the Russell County Library in Lebanon, VA, on Friday, Sept. 30, from 11 am to 2 pm to meet new reunion visitors, and to help family with their genealogy research. I had planned to be in the Family History Room at the Library. We had hoped to arrange a caravan of cars after 2 pm for those who wished to visit the Jessee Mill, and other family sites in Russell Co. I would have had a rental car, and with a little help from local cousins, could have helped lead this tour.
I am very sorry to say that circumstances have caused me to reassess our trip to the East Coast, and we cannot go at this time. I am very disappointed about this and a bit worried. I have had several Jessee cousins, who have never attended a Jessee Reunion, say they plan to be there this year, some coming from some distance. I very much wanted to meet them, and to help them see historical Jessee sites in Russell Co., particularly the Jessee Mill, the miller’s home, the gravestones in the Church cemetery nearby, if not the Archer Jessee gravesite, and the site of John and Frankey’s farm and those of Archer, John Jessee Jr. and George Lea Jessee farms near the Jessee Mill.
I am writing here to ask for a little help from cousins and other genealogist there in Russell Co. who know about these sites and the Jessee Family. Could anyone make themselves available at the Russell County Library from 11 am to about 2pm to meet possible Jessee Reunion guests and cousins coming from afar, to show them the resources of the Family History Room, and to perhaps lead a car caravan tour of Jessee’s Mill and nearby sites after 2pm? Anyone with Internet connection, available there in the library, can also go to www.jessee.org and then to the Jessee Family Database on RootsWeb to search for genealogy information, too. If so, let me know, and I will be ever so grateful.
I am sorry to miss this reunion, and to disappoint any who planned to meet me there. I have learned from one of the newbies, that there was noone at the Russell Co. Library on Friday to welcome or help them. I am so sorry and sad to hear this.
