Grady L. Jessee Jr Passes Away

Grady Jessee Jr., 94, of the Carterton community of Lebanon, Va. passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 7, 2016. Born January 18, 1922, he was a son of the late Grady L. Jessee and Bessie Stamper Jessee.
A Veteran of World War II, he served in the 982 Engineering Division, 327 Battalion. He was a former member and adult Sunday school teacher at Freeburn Church of God, Freeburn, Ky. He returned to the Carterton community with his family in 1977. A founding member of the House of the Lord Church in Castlewood, Va., he served as the adult Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher until 2014. He worked for the Norfolk & Western Railroad for 44 years before retiring in 1983.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Ellis, Audrey Jessee, and Marie Wilson; and a brother, Garland "Doodle" Jessee. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years and devoted caregiver, Joyce Hope Harris Jessee; two daughters, Alice Faye Dotson and husband, Larry of Matewan, W.Va., and Tammy Whitt and husband, Adrion of Lebanon; five grandchildren, Becky Kennedy and husband, Mike of Columbus, Ohio, David Dotson and wife, Angel, and Michelle Cox and husband, Mike, all of Matewan, Abby Whitt of Lebanon, and Mekayla Herndon and husband, Aubrey of St. Paul, Va; five great-grandchildren, David Allen and Adam Dotson, Allison and Jeffrey Cox, and Zachary Kennedy; one sister, Mary Ferguson of Abingdon, Va; three brothers, Jack Jessee, Charlie Jessee, and JD Jessee; several nieces and nephews and special neighbors, Charlene and Bob Browning, Nelson Hayes and April.
Pallbearers will be Nelson Hayes, Bob Browning and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Dotson, Adrion Whitt and David Dotson. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the Owens Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. John Tiller and the Rev. Ted Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, with military graveside rites conducted by the Lebanon VFW Post 9864. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 8, 2016, after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
